Project Description

Wisp Operator in Angola.

In this Project BTESA has built the WISP network of the KWENDANET operator from scratch.

From the beginning, BTESA has helped the operator in defining the viability of the business. He has carried out the coverage study for the city of Luanda, capital of Angola and has carried out network deployment work, taking care of the following tasks:

  • Radio simulation in the 5GHz band
  • Supply of PmP base stations from Albentia Systems
  • Supply of Albentia Systems CPEs for end customers
  • Supply of NuCom home routers for end customers
  • Supply and configuration of routers for core network
  • Implementation of the network management and billing platform
  • Internet access network connection
  • Registration advice in AFRINIC for attribution of public IP addresses and AS number
  • Installation of servers for management and billing platform
  • Training of NOC staff
  • Training of the installer team
  • Advice to the commercial team

The Spanish technology of Albentia Systems was selected for the following advantages:

  • Albentia Systems technology has the best solution in highly interfered environments using narrow channels
  • High user density per BS. With no limit in number of users, the BS is capable of handling more than 200 subscribers with excellent performance.
  • Unlike other technologies designed for short distances, BSs can connect with CPEs more than 25Km away.
  • The guaranteed quality of service makes it possible to offer critical services that could not be implemented with other technologies.

As a result of the project, the KWENDANET operator currently has one of the highest performing access networks in Angola in terms of quality of service as well as good management of high user densities that the deployed base stations offer.

Distances greater than 25Km can be covered without difficulty for those clients further away from the BSs.
