Great Success of the BTESA Workshop: DVB-T2 & DVB-SIS – Reality and Future

BTESA’s headquarters hosted around fifty broadcast industry professionals on June 11th for a technical workshop focused on DVB-T2 and DVB-SIS, a day dedicated to an in-depth analysis of the technological and regulatory opportunities in the field of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT).

The starting point was the presentation of the new Spanish National Technical Plan for DTT (Royal Decree 250/2025), delivered by Ángel León, Area Coordinator at the Subdirectorate General for Spectrum Planning and Management, who outlined the regulatory framework that will guide the rollout of DTT in Spain in the coming years.

The workshop also featured José Manuel Sanz, Head of Technology and Laboratory at CELLNEX, who addressed the technical challenges involved in deploying DVB-T2 UHD networks from the perspective of an operator managing the entire transmission chain: from the headend through satellite and terrestrial distribution, to DTT broadcasting and network quality supervision. Later, Alejandro Moya, Head of Digital Signal Processing at BTESA’s R&D department, made a deeper presentation of the technical aspects of the DVB-T2 standard, detailing its capabilities and integration in SFN networks.

The second part of the day focused on bandwidth savings using DVB-SIS, and its complementary features, such as content regionalization, with the qualified presentation by Laurent Roul, Vice President of Marketing at ENENSYS Technologies, a pioneer company in this technology. Following this, Juan Lluch, Director of the Engineering Department at BTESA, presented several international success stories demonstrating the viability and efficiency of the combined use of DVB-T2 and DVB-SIS, integrating equipment from BTESA and Enensys in pioneering deployments of both technologies.

“It has been a highly technical workshop, yet practical and very useful. We have managed to bring together all the key players in the DTT ecosystem in one place to exchange experiences and explore opportunities to push DTT by using the improvements in quality and efficiency offered by new technologies,” said Carlos Rosa, Commercial Director of BTESA, during the event’s closing remarks.

The session concluded with a live demonstration of Enensys’ advanced solutions for seamless headend management, as well as a practical demonstration showing how the MISO feature significantly improves coverage in overlap zones between two transmitters in SFN networks. The event wrapped up with a cocktail and networking session where attendees, technology providers, and institutional representatives continued sharing ideas and perspectives.

This workshop reinforces BTESA’s position as a reference in the innovation and deployment of digital transmission solutions, in a context marked by the regulatory and technological evolution of free-to-air television.
