DAB+; BTESA launches the first digital terrestrial radio in West Africa

BTESA, leader in the design and execution of broadcast turnkey projects, has carried out the design, supply and configuration of the first digital radio network in West Africa.

The new digital radio broadcasting system (DAB+) is specially designed for mobile reception, and offers high robustness against multipath reception. The installation of two DAB multiplexes on VHF channels 10A and 10C will allow the transmission of at least 25 radio channels.

In addition to the highest signal quality, and as in DTT, this technology allows to allocate several services into one multiplex, and the design of SFN networks which means that, by using a single frequency throughout the country, there is no need to turn the dial when traveling on the road. Moreover, additional data associated to the radio program can be transmitted, such images, traffic information, etc..

The delivered system covers from compression and encapsulation of the contents from the studios, conveyance of digital signals (supporting RTP Unicast, Icecast protocols), transcoding, multiplexing and generation of EDI/ETI signals, up to distribution and broadcasting from the transmitter sites (transmitters, channel combiner, feeder, antennas, tower, UPS, electrical distribution and protection boards).

BTESA’s Doherty high-efficiency transmitters, in addition to having a 2+1 configuration, provide full redundancy to the network thanks to the availability of seamless switching inputs (2 EDI + 2 ETI) .

In addition to the equipment, a complete network management system has been supplied, which, besides controling the complete network, will also allow to get the highest quality of services with the lowest bitrate.
